At the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, Goodyear unveiled the CityCube concept tire for the Toyota i-TRIL concept car.
This small, agile and urban-friendly electric vehicle demonstrates many of the innovative aspects of Toyota’s quest into engaging and environmentally-friendly mobility solutions. The i-TRIL is a concept for sophisticated, single, 30-50-year-old, active female customers. It sets out to demonstrate that future electric cars can stimulate the senses and set the pulse racing.
It therefore came as no surprise that Toyota had exacting requirements for the tires of this innovative concept.
Goodyear CityCube Concept
Goodyear’s CityCube concept tire was designed to be lightweight with low rolling resistance. The CityCube also has a reduced groove volume, providing higher mileage and reducing noise levels.
Because the front wheels of the I-Trill tilt, the design of the concept tire is similar to that of a motorcycle tire. The front tire has an unique contour shape and differs from the rear tire. A so called mixed fitment, tall and narrow at the front and a wider asymmetric design for the rear tire. This helps enhance safe driving and removes water for the larger rear tire, providing better grip.
The tire also includes advanced sensor technology and features a unique tread design. It can identify a variety of road conditions and transmit data to the vehicle to support its advanced collision prevention systems.
